Animation Experiments
Packaging design for Peruvian Chocolatier, Death by Xoko.
Flour Sack Acting Animation
This animation was an experiment I did to explore animated acting with inanimate objects. As a huge fan of Fantasia and the Sorceror’s Apprentice, I wanted to try this with a little flour sack.
The Balloon - Acting Final
This was an animation I made for my acting and story class. I wrote the story and designed the overall look and feel of the animation, and then we used mocap data to do all of the character animation. For this project, I tried to focus on creating a meaningful interaction between two characters in a short time frame.
Rainbow Motion Lines
This looping animation began as a study of a traditional walk cycle, but when I translated it into the 3D space, I searched for ways to translate the arcs and lines of motion I had studied from traditional 2D walk cycles. In order to do this, I used Cinema4D to simulate the arcs, and reduce the walk cycle solely to its motion lines.
Synesthesia Visualization - "Escape" by Hans Zimmer
I have audio-grapheme synesthesia, a brain condition that causes me to see colors and shapes in space when I listen to music. Each song, instrument, genre, and key has their own particular color and shape language. This was an experimental animation I made to visualize what it is like in my mind when I listen to “Escape” by Hans Zimmer.
Julia Set Animation
This video visually explores the relationship between two mathematics sets on the imaginary plane— the Filled Julia Set and the Mandelbrot Set, when the Julia Set is restricted to z=0. When the coordinates of the Julia Set (animated here) fall within the Mandelbrot set, the set creates a solid shape, or a Fatou Set, and often has fractal edges. When the coordinates of the Julia Set fall outside of the Mandelbrot Set, the set creates a series of unconnected fractal pieces, like dust.
Included within the video is the San Marco Fractal, occurring at c = -0.75.
While researching the project, I interviewed Mathematics professors at the New Jersey Institute of Technology about Chaos Theory, the Mandelbrot Set, and Fractal math. Animated with 3D Mandelbulb / Mandelbulber.
Forest Lights
This was a project I did to practice compositing and post production editing. I filmed the actress on my school’s green screen, tracked the footage, and created the the matte painting for the background. I wanted to capture a really magical feeling of wonder, as part of my fascination with VFX is the ability to create fantastic worlds that are seemingly indistinguishable from reality. Created with The Foundry’s Nuke.
